First of all, and it can never be stressed enough, you have to have quality content. Quality would mean well-written, original, unique, timely, and relevant. If you are a capable writer, write about things you are an authority on or are passionate about. You can always write about topics you have researched on. But writing can be draining - specially if you write about topics you are impartial to. If you write about things that you love or are knowledgeable of already it shouldn't be drudgery. But if you are passionate about learning new stuff all the time and sharing it, that's a different story. Also, hone your own voice as a writer. It's hard to stand out when anybody can write about the same thing you are. The only thing that can truly make you stand out is your own style. If you take a look at the bloggers who've became a success, you'll see they have their own distinct style. Now, if you have no talent for writing or just simply abhor it, you can practice, practice, practice and make yourself like it by thinking about the advantages of writing for your own blog OR you can always hire a professional writer and make sure to let him or her know how exactly you want it to sound like and what things to tackle etc. If you take the latter route, make sure to go with a reputable company/professional. By the by, also make sure you have an attractive website, SEO know-how, consistency and tons of patience and seek help if you really need it.
Hello... Great, i agreed with your point. Contents and style is very important for a blog success. All the works before hitting the "post" button is crucial, but i think the "follow up" actions after posting the blog post also need to be focus. What do you think?
That's right, follow up actions are important. Say, if you allow people to comment on your post - which I think bloggers should - you should reply to their comments. Interaction is important because, after all, blogging is a form of communication. Being focused and consistent is also key.
I think the best way to do follow up is having your own "checklist". List down all the "Must Do" actions, it save time and your progress will be more effective.

I've blogged since 2006 on several different blog. What makes each blog successful is different for each one. For the more competitive niches, you must have a great flair of personality, unique content that's updated regularly and just an ounce of luck really. (I know that part is sad to say but it's true). I have one blog in a very narrow health niche. There's a lot more competition now than there was when I started in 2008 but I just have to focus on educating in a clear way. I like to add a flair of personality but it's not as important as it is for some other niches. In the end, you just have to look at each blog and determine exactly what it needs. Experiment with different things until you find what fits. Don't give up after a few tries because sometimes it takes a while to find that right fit.
I think whether or not your blog is a "success" depends solely on your intent and definition of success. If you mean to make money on adsense revenue then yes you can rank a blog high on SERPS with low quality content and make money off ad revenue. Rather, if you wish to have a loyal readership base and repeat customers than quality content is necessary. You have to speak to the people who visit your site in language that they can relate to.
