I just read in a thread that buying a link in the Yahoo Directory can do great for your site, and some one else said, no it does not. I'd like to know for sure. Yahoo Directory Usefull or not? If it is why? and if not why not And what's the cost? And what is a defenite link I should buy? Any certain place? and how much does it cost! and what are the benefits?
Yahoo! Directory is $299 a year for a single link. This will usally get you a PR 0-5 link depending on your industry. There is some talk about it helping you get out of the sandbox. If that is true it is definetly worth it for the first year of your site to purchase a link. Unfortunatly there is no definitive proof yet. There is no definite link you should buy. If your site is new you may want to try the traditional link building things first (directories, articles, press releases, link exchanges....etc..) before you start spending some money. Also this is completely dependant on how compedative your industry/keywords are.
Yahoo directory cost me $299/yr... it certainly has not hurt my site... Its possible that I could have invested that money into more/better links. Is there a definite link you should buy? No. Some links are free. Trades, directories. Look for links from related sites or high traffic. Also consider the PR of the page. I think your best bet would be to read as many posts on this site as possible, search for link exchange, free directories, and anchor text...
well I have read a lot on this forum ( and i'm a regular poster on around 20 more forums ) all related to my subject, Webmasters, Websites Building etc! would I be better off buying for $300 all kinds of links on diff sites, or buy a link at the yahoo directory, my website is www.webmasterspalace.com incase it's needed to know.
I think if Yahoo was such a huge benefit, there would be more of a consensus. I didn't buy a directory position and I have done exceedingly well in Google without it. Yahoo has always been an also-ran until recently. After the latest Yahoo update, I've begun to do well there as well. The site has been up a year and a half. Personally I might pay up if it wasn't an annual fee. They don't do a very good job of selling the benefit. Since you can get a handfull of good permanent pr backlinks for your $300, I'd go that route. Wish I could answer more definitively but I have yet to see a better argument one way or the other.
I understand, thanks a lot ( perhaps you could share your link here, i'd like to take a peek ) Thanks again!
I've had some pages added to the yahoo directory for free (informational non-profit site) and it hasn't helped the ranking on yahoo to what I can determine. The disadvantege is the screwy title they give the page. As whatever title they use is what comes up in the yahoo serps. For $300 per annum I'd spend the money elsewhere.
