What laptop brand would you recommend?

How can we have a 20 post thread on laptops without Apple being mentioned? OK she's on a tight budget - go on eBay and snap up a nice G4 iMac or Powerbook!

 

Jaree I'll second that. I worked on Dell Tech Support and I wouldnt recommend any of their products to anyone.

Its not their systems thats the problem its the actual company.

You are right, I can't believe nobody mentioned Apple. I don't know how good their performance but, the design is sure very cool!!!

 

Personally I would go for Toshiba

 

Out of all the laptops I sell. The most popular and also the one that never comes back with warranty problems are the custom made ones a company makes by hand nearby me. They are simply brilliant and not costly either.

I have a sony, which is sweet, but if I had the budget for a $4000 computer, I'd be looking at a voodoo envy probably in orange.

 

do they also advertise dell computers like "THIS GREAT COMPUTER FOR ONLY $500,00!!!" in your country, and if you check out the website you find out you have to pay another $110,00 "shipping fee" which makes this computers very expensive...?
anyway, look at the specs and you see that most "cheap" dells are just outdated processors (amd sempron, intel celeron) with much GHz on a $40,00 mainboard. get an acer or this ibm brand.

Never had a problem with my HP's. Nothing but problems with Dell and Sony.

I like Toshiba, but I'd say the features are most important. For me that means duo cpu, lots of ram, and a long battery life.

 

In my opinion they all suck big time except Sony Vaio. Here is my personal experience with Laptops

-Sony Vaio FX540 (first laptop ever bought), made it until I recently dropped it from a shelf. Best quality ever. Paid tons of money for it

From then on, I bought crap from China and got what I paid for:

-Gateway Solo : Battery died from heat exhaustion

-HP: Power Plug would fall out all by itself. After about a year the display brightness couldn't be adjusted

-Dell (small 12-inch subnotebook model with mobile pentium): Died from heat exhaustion after 2 years of use, had to replace motherboard and harddrive (work laptop)

-1st Compaq V2000(Centrino): keyboard got stuck after 3 months, warranty repair

-2nd Compaq V2000: Display is messed up when closed while the laptop is on, due to heat problem (AMD mobile Turion)

My personal opinion: The Sony laptops are worth the premium price. Everthing else is crap shipped from Shanghai through Alaska to my Home in California.

If you can afford one, the Apple MacBook Pro 15" is an awesome laptop.

A little lower budget go for a Toshiba Satellite Pro.

Budget tighter still, go for an ASUS.

I know someone who repairs laptops for a living (a pretty good one too) and he recommends Apple and Toshiba as most reliable and easily fixed if they do go wrong.

I've owned Dell, HP, Toshiba and Apple laptops, and imo once you've had Mac, you'll never go back

 

Acer is pretty good with their laptops. They have pretty stable computers, and have never had a problem with the hardware on their computer.

As far as bad laptops, I would go with ASUS. There are a few annoyances that well... annoy. First off, the touchpad buttons are hard to press, and they stick. Also, Windows XP could not recognize the correct processor speed for my computer, when other programs, such as games, could. Maybe it was just my laptop, but these problems kinda killed it for me.

 

Gimme a Toshiba with all the usual bells and whistles.

 

Umm,I like Mac...Mac would be the way to go.
