Lets say I own a website with various articles about health... Obviously the banner ads should have something to do with health, but the articles themselves are not sales pitches , just information. Would it be very effective if I had various banner ads from ClickBank, Commission Junction, etc. This might sound very general and common sense-ish to you but if you could give some suggestions on having ads that convert well that would be great. A fixed position (so the ads are always visible) should work well, shouldn't it...
The articles are not sales pitches, you are absolutely correct. That said, the best types of links that get the most amount of clicks are natural text links in articles. When you link to the aff link naturally it doesn't sound like a sales pitch and visitors will be more likely to click on it to see what it's all about. Regarding banner ads, I've had good results with sidebar ads and banners placed at the bottom of the post.
I agree with you, all he NEED to do is to MIX between the banner ads and context links in your articles
