Good question. My first thoughts: -Sites with traffic -Generally I'd think sites that are in the niche of the affiliates or cater to the demographic the product is likely to be popular with.
Bingo. Do your research and make sure the target market of the product coincides with the target market of the site.
That doesn't make it any easier in many cases though. For my site finding affiliates that are actually going to be of interest to my visitors AND pay out money in a way that I might actually spend it here in The Netherlands isn't easy so far.
kh7 is correct. There is one a affiliate promoter I know of who has a very nice free dating site. He has banners from various dating affiliate programs on his dating site that brings in around $10,000 a month for him. He's doing very well, but I think it took some time to get people to sign up and be active to his dating site.
What I am saying is, do affiliate program actually work as far as people clicking on them and signing up is concerned? Are there any people here making a lot of money through affiliates?
An authority site with a lot of related content could do VERY well. It breaks my heart to see some sites getting high rankings for competitive keywords and they have no programs active to capitalize off the traffic.
I find it very difficult to make money simply from banner placement on any site. Sites with low traffic are a total waste of time and even 2000 uniques per day only seems to generate a few clicks and that is for a site which is targeted to a particular niche with good search engine positioning. I do better with PPC. regards mogsta
Well, I am sure most people do better with ppc, but there must also be alot of people that do well with affiliates as well, otherwise there won't be abnners on so many sites promoting products and services.
I make a small amount of money from affiliate marketing on my niche website. It's nothing to write home about and I certainly couldn't think of giving up my day job. I've had trouble finding a program with UK affiliates that are relevant to my website. I don't just put banners on the site, I actually link to individual products.
Review sites always do well. For example, CNET.com reviews products and make money when people buy them from their site.
I make some money through affiliate links, but it doesn't come close to what I make through adsense. That's partly because the best candidate for affiliates on my site is selling books - and Amazon doesn't put money in my Dutch bank account, so for the English pages on my site I'm pretty much stuck to no affiliates at all.
PPC/arbitrage is on its way out. Affiliate marketing is going to make some waves in 2007. And yes, some people make a lot of money doing it.
I doubt if ppc will be out. If you mean in the affiliate circles, then I am not sure, but as far as adsense, YPN are concerned, it has only began.
