Recently, I came across a number of sites which were linking to one of the sites I work on. These are obviously MFA sites, but are mimicking DMOZ in some way or another. But where are they getting their data from? Here are a few examples: http://www.cars7.net/ http://www.offshorepro.info/ Similar sites, but with a different theme: http://www.teesearch.info/ http://www.evsearch.info/ * I couldn't find an appropriate forum to post this thread, so decided to post here
http://rdf.dmoz.org/ it takes mine 5 minutes, but anyway it was fun to see that how people making whole copy to dmoz using for adsense!
The sites I mentioned above are in no way using DMOZ data. They are not 'DMOZ clones'. I guess they're using some sort of RSS Feeds to generate links and 'content' on these pages, using DMOZ style.
It seems that the site content is coming from one Site database. The 'content' of the site is coming from 3 sources. 1. Automated Crawler, which scans and retrieve data from other Directory sites. 2. Manually inputed data from the site owners. 3. DMOZ feeds This is all that I can think of right now.
