What kind of site?

I want to start my own design website, but I haven't figured out what kind of website it should be.

    Joombla, basic XHTML, Wordpress, etcetera?

I want to put some basic information about my company and have some portfolio on it. I want to design the page myself too.

Hope you can help out! Cheers.

Sounds like you want a pretty small site - using something like Joomla would probably be overkill. I'd say just build a basic portfolio type site, list your services, show your work, and maybe a contact form to make it easy for people to get in touch.

Probably be looking to use basic XHTML+CSS. Although a CMS would be nice as i'm assuming you being a designer it'd be easier for you to update that way (hell it'd be easier for me, and i'm a programmer).

Joomla or WP would probably be too much for it.

You don't need a CMS unless you intend to have a lot more than 10 pages. Use a premade CSS template, or Dreamweaver would work well.

Okay so it'll be a basic XHTML+CSS site then. I think I don't need a premade template as I've done such sites before.

    Thanks for your comments!

I'd say use XHTML and CSS. If you want to design the website, use Adobe Photoshop CS2. If you don't have that, then use Gimp. It's quite fun to design your website from scratch and it really is quite rewarding, as you've made absolutely everything.

The Easiest is Wordpress + Google will love you for it. Get a theme you like for it and modify the hell out of it in accordance with your tastes.

+ you'll learn something very, very useful - WP theme development and modification - a skill worth plenty more fungolas than merely run-of-the-mill html designing. Always a lack of good custom WP theme designers anywhere you look. A higher barrier to entry, that is why the money is better.

I agree wholeheartedly. There is a huge demand for WordPress specialists and like gzeus posted you can make way more money. The really nice thing about WordPress is that there are tons and tons of tutorials, so it won't take you long to catch on.
