Hi guys, Google PR used to be quite important, but now I can see its impact has weakened. So why people still care about the PR thing? What kinda role does it play now?
Old habits are hart to break, besides just because pr is weakened it does not mean it is not of some importaints.
It's mostly to show advertisers, or at least that's what I use it for. PR is just used as a bragging right nowadays, a large number you can rub in the face of your competing niches to show that you have more backlinks from higher-ranking sites. Ultimately, it doesn't affect your earnings a damn bit
I've been seeing a lot of posts like this claiming PR means really nothing now. But I still see high PR sites getting ranked for most big search keywords.
PR doesn't mean anything for years. I believe they keep it for n00bs only, as it has no importance today
PR is Google's way of deciding a page's importance because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.
Pagerank indeed plays a major role in SERP. For those, who doubt it, please read http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html
As PR updates not often but SERP changes almost every day, I can say that PR is necessary only for companies providing SEO services to show the results to the clients.
The PR only tells you how quality links you have. And sites with high page rank that are first of second on Google are not there because of page rank, but quality and numbered back links.
Well, PR still reflects your backlinks. But it's just a single metric that doesn't say anything about relevance, authority, etc. At best you can use it to gauge another site under the assumption that if they have high PR they gained a lot of good backlinks through natural link building and do some research to check out if that's true. Back in the day though, all you needed was PR and content. I used to buy a dropping PR5 domain for $40 and within a week it'd be making $10-$100 back daily because those were the ONLY factors.
From my experience it helps with SERP, if you got a backlink from high PR site for a keyword it will be counted 1000 times more than a link from a blog comment for example.
Very glad to see all kinds of interesting ideas here. I think PR, as you have mentioned, is an old habit.
Oh yes, that's for sure. It helps in SERPS as much as submitting your site to search engines. Just do it, and you will become a GOD of SEO making billions of dollars per year.
