Hi, I am running a small company where we provide hosting to our clients, They mainly connect via imap and we have around 85 active imap accounts created. Our users all use their account on multiple devices like phones/tablets/laptops and/or desktops. Regarding how active these accounts are: 85% are business accounts so they are very active during the day. We are looking at renting a vps server, What kind of resources do you think I need?
From what you are saying, the server has little to activity other than imap connections? If this is the case, minimal resources should be fine. Individual imap connections are generally not very resource intensive. If you do however go with OpenVZ for virtualization, they can have additional tcpsocket limits that may be an issue on servers with a large amount of email activity.
