What kind of car is Lightning McQueen in Disney Pixar 'Cars'?

The title kind of says it all... What kind/model of car is Lightning McQueen pls?

Reason I ask is 'The King' is the awesome Plymouth Superbird (I recognised it from Gran Turismo lol), but can't tell if McQueen is meant to be a real car I don't recognise or one that's just made up.

Okay, I caught a glimpse of a black apple logo on the back of a white trailer, but didn't see the car... which part of the movie is it in (I just re-watched the opening race)?

 

I think Lightnign McQueen is a Chevy Car becuase if you listen to the song that plays when they are racing it mentions Chevy. I have seen it enough times to know this. My One year old son loves this movie. I also believe it to be a corvet?

 

I couldn't help but notice that the lights are pretty similar to the lights on a Mazda RX8.. It is probably a combination of parts from different cars
