    The harder they are to get the more valuable they will likely be. They will send more link juice and it's more difficult for competitors to replicate your backlink profile.

    From my experience, google likes backlinks from relative sites to your yours. So if you owned a wedding planning site, google would like to see websites like wedding venues, or wedding photographers sites liking to yours.

    Google likes back links from well established sites that have a high level of editorial policy. More so Google likes sites that have citations from excellent sources to support the strength of that website. For example if there are citations in the news about this site on CNN or the New York Times, that can lend a lot of credibility to the site. On the other hand, if there really are no strong citations it can be difficult to get to the next level.

    Google links backlinks that come from relevant well-rated site and have diverse anchors. So, make sure that you don't build links with:
    • Pages with highly irrelevant titles (that have nothing to do with your site category);
    • Domains with little traffic or domains that have bad reputation with search engines;
    • Pages with hundreds of external links and little content;
    • Pages with old cache dates.
    Also, make sure that you diversify your backlink anchors. Use:
    • Hybrid anchors (that can be your "Brand name + some variations of your keywords")
    • Universal anchors ("here's the link", "click here", "download this", "link", etc.)
    • Or naked URLs ("www.site.com").
    Also note that Google likes socially popular links, so pay attention to that fact as well.

    Hope you find these tips useful.

    With respect for all of you I have to say my point of view as well that is: Google DOESN'T like the backlinks - they want you to pay for AdWords in order to be on the first page. Stop thinking that Google loves you guys :) they just look for money, they're not a charity company like WIKI was until 3 months ago. They're a business company that has expenses and therefore they need to have income. If they'll start to "appreciate" your backlinks then their JOB will be ended and they'll have to close the gates :) Is just a simple commercial game that they're playing so well for the last 10 years. :)

    I think Google likes back links from high PR websites, websites which are well established, And the content should be matched up with link and websites type.

    Google always like natural and relevant links to give you higher ranking.
    Below are the links type Google hate and you should always avoid to get better ranking.
    1. Spammy Comment Links
    2. No Unnatural Link Exchanges
    3. No Automated Links
    4. No Paid Links
    5. No Advertorials
    6. No Optimized Anchor Text

    @RosuC: We appreciate your thoughts RosuC, we too believe that Google might be changing their algorithms frequently to earn good amount of $$$$ from Adwords. Still, we are discussing the criteria that can be set to differentiate between Authentic and unauthentic backlinks.

    @clownasd Online marketers keep on finding creative ways to exploit Google system (which judge website authority) while putting in as little work as possible & therefore, Google is now assessing every link it stumbles across. It is better for every marketer to create a single backlink from high authority website than creating hundred of backlinks from low quality websites.

    You can judge website/page authority from moz toolbar.

    @cuteboy I have too much time wasted because of the changes of Google Algorithms. The funny thing is that they're damaging all the websites, not only the ones that are doing Black Hat, if they target something - they just penalize everything. Is like they shoot first and aim after. About the topic - I don't consider that there is any proper answer. Google doesn't appreciate the backlinks and that's it.
