I have an icons site, so I have to browse around and try to catch up on what the young fellows like to see and do. I was reading a popular teen forum today, and this is one of the posts: I feel so terrified when I realize that one day I will have to have my own kids and deal with this kind of stuf...
That is quite scary. That has always been an issue but its the age that seems to keep dropping. The even scarier part is those posting a year later and the type of issues they are having to deal with then.
I can handle the sex part, though I agree it's a little early. What bothers me even more is the massive ammounts of spelling errors and poor grammar these people use. I really dislike this "net speak" stuff. How much harder is it to actually type the actual word?
My girlfriend teaches 5th grade. She tells me horror stories of how her kids insist upon writing like this when doing work. Net speak is making kids stupid, and I think stupidity is far worse than anything else. How will they get a job (like unemployed me should talk!) when they can't properly write? Scary indeed.
Text messaging has added to it over here and when messaging reaches the same popularity in the US, it will get even worse.
E-mail enquiries I get from customers are the same... And then they expect a professional reply from me. No punctuation & idotic or non-existent ~~ ** CaPiTaliZation **~~; wiv, xxx, and all that crap should be eradicated. Stick to the ROFLs and LOL's. That's enough for me.
that post sounds like a trap they pay cops to sit on the internet and post stuff like that they arrest all kinds of people, its sort of funny some 35 year olg guy drives 200 miles to meet the internet "girl" in the mall and the cops are there waiting for him
Its perfectly natural for teenagers to enquire about these issues, the difference now is that the internet provides a medium for them to express themselves, and worse to recieve replies from people who really have no idea what they are talking about. Less than 5 years ago, students would leave the school gates and go home, not to see their friends until the evening or perhaps the next day, now more from the arrival of the mobile phone, rather than the internet, that seperation has been lost. Kids regularly receive 'Luv's Ya' texts at midnight, or worse, and mobile phone chat rooms have taken the ability for parents to monitor a childs movements on a P.C away. The P.C as an extention provides an equally ,if not worse environment as webcams, email and picture sending are available. At 15 i was tucked up in bed by 11, now 15 year olds are still on messenger at midnight...shamefully SO ARE WE The bottom line is education and upbringing by the parents...dont be afraid of what your child may be like..you are the one who can influence them the most...so do it well and the problems will be reduced at the least. G-E-M
hey when I was 16 we would go to the gehetto stores and pay bums to buy us beer and try to take some cute 15 year olds with us
