What keywords should I use on content?

    Hi,

I have a question about choosing keywords for content network.

When targetting on search network, I usually narrow down the keywords so that only potencial customers will click. Also maybe I get rid of the words "free" or things like that and use key words which have a relatively large serch volume. (Is this understanding correct?)

However, in the content network, I want my ad shown on random web sites which are related to my product. So, even a site contains the word "free" a lot, for example, I still want my ad to be shown on the site. (Do you think it's not a good strategy?)

So, Let's say, If I was selling Spanish learning materials then I want my ad on "free spanish dictionary" sites. Or "Spanish mp3 podcast" sites. (even my product doesn't have any mp3 material but I want my ad shown on "Learn Spanish by mp3 podcast" site or something like that.)

So "free" or "mp3" can be my keywords right?
Other examples I can think of with "spanish" "learning" are "online" "resource" "website" "dictionary" etc...(not that I sell spanish learning materials but as an example)

So, my question is, should I include the word "free" or "mp3" on my keywords list then? in Serch network, I know these words are reason your QS goes down, because these words are not related to your product itself.

    But what about with content?
Should I use the keywords most likely seen on the websites itself? Or should I still stick with my product's keywords.

    Thanks!

Remember that the content network uses keywords in a different way from search - the keywords are used to establish the theme of the adgroup and match it to webpages. If all the keywords make sense within the theme, they will help to get the sort of contextual targeting you want. If you add keywords that are complete 'wildcards' it may confuse the 'message' of your adgroup. You might find that placement targeting is a help to you, if there are certain websites you want your ad to appear on, that you're not sure how to target by keywords.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by saying adding 'free' would lower your qs. Most people add free as a negative, simply because they're not offering a free offer, so want to eliminate 'clickers' who aren't looking to buy anything.

    Thanks guys!

As for "free" would lower your qs, I meant I don't offer anything free, so my site doesn't contain the word free at all. When googlebot decides the theme of my site, I thought the word "free" is irrelevant and qs would be lowered. I'm not sure if that's the reason for these, but I have experiences where my kewwords qs are low from the beggining when I use word like "free" or "site"(would be "spanish site" in my example here). I still wnated to use the word "free" cuz even people who got attracted by "free" something, they still bought my product, but my qs went law like 4 or 5. (more specific or relavent words get 7 or 8 usually)
