Our last president left the people feeling stronger, more patriotic, proud to be American, and hopefull of our resolve. AFTER being attacked on our own soil and losing thousands of people to those attacks.

Our current President leaves people feeling scared and hopeless, worried about whether or not America will even exist in a few years.

The most upsetting part about that is that this stupid 'recession' isn't even that bad. it's no worse than the recession of 2000-2001 really. and its not even as bad as the recession of the late 1980s!!! but people make it out to be like the Great Depression (which wasn't as bad as the recession of hte 1870s!).

folks, things are not that bad, not here, not globally. We're going through a correctional phase and we will survive just fine.

as a measure of gross domestic product, by the way (thats GDP), this Stimulus/bailout check is smaller than the government bailout of the 1980s!

George Soros is a short minded twit. This is NOTHING like the depression of the 1930s. Our unemployment won't come close (right now we're in the mid 7%, in the 30s it reached 20-30+% range). Right now everyone has food to eat and in the 30's hundreds of thousands of farmers were displaced from the southern United States because of the dust bowl. Right now our world governments have the ways and the means to bail out our suffering, during the 30's we had neither the resources, nor a way of passing them out in such a grand method. Today our poor have to choose between a new pair of shoes and a new video game. Back then our poor had to choose between a blanket and a meal. Today our middle class have to eat out less often becaues they have two car payments and a house payment. Back then the middle class was happy to have a roof over their head and they walked to work. Today anyone can go to the emergency room and be treated for their wounds or illnesses. Back then the poor could not go to the doctor. Today our savings accounts are insured for $250,000 via the FDIC. Back then there was no bank account insurance.

approvals mean absolutely nothing. Maddoff had fantastic approval ratings from his customers too until they realized he stole 50 billion. Reagan and Churchill, two of the greatest men of the last 100 years, were both hated while in office by many.

Yes, I can see from your sig that you probably win at the casino because you look more on the positive side. LOL

Resolution of the problem has more to do with understanding what it really is and base the recovery on facts rather than wishful positive thinking.

PS I am not a Napoleon Hill, et al. fan. Reason reign supreme. Positive (or wishful) thinking has the same purpose a pacifier has for a baby.

That's a stupid comment. The 'facts' are then that the Brittish Empire should have easily destroyed the unskilled farmers with their hunting muskets and pitch forks. But they did not, and we today have the USA because of it.

You have two options, up and down. Down will come on it's own accord, you must always chose up.

The casinos are in his sig, therefore his winning from them. I doubt he plays.

I've suspected for a long time that the financial news is overblown. I kind of go for the "controlled demolition of the economy" theory. What's destroying it is all the bad news.

All economists know this. It's what they mean by talking about "market confidence." We have none, but it would be simple to arrange.

Three weeks of experts predicting a recovery and it would be a reality.

I hate be so glib about it, but what has actually happened? Has the underlying value of civilization rapidly decreased?

Or has the system of markers and goods distribution merely been disrupted.

A collapse in the financial sector is a big problem, but it is not what drives the economy. Labor + Resources=Goods.

A punch of paper hawkers got hoist in their petard, along with everyone who trusted them.

I haven't noticed any economic problems, personally. Never been better. I don't have a 401k, own a house, or work in the system.

I have a retirement account, own a house which appraised for 5% less than I bought it for 18 months ago, and my business has slowed down in this recession.

However, I still say it's not that bad, as I originally state. We are in a down period, nothing more. And like you said, "Three weeks of experts predicting a recovery and it would be a reality." That is true. Everything is emotional at this point and its rediculous.

with the house, retirement account and slowing business I haven't LOST anything. My assets are devalued right now, but they will pick up. Unlike many who feel it is a better move to buy high and sell low.

The leader who brought us down was the last president (George Bush,jr), this current president had inherited this mess and is just about 5 weeks in office, please!.

President Bush failed to protect the country in September 11, 2001 that was the time when the "terrorist" did their things and George Bush was in office. He should have been removed from the office when he failed to protect the country at that time.

Don't know what you mean by being patriotic, proud, hopefull, stronger. If you are a redneck maybe. Any arrogant action will make any redneck proud and stronger. If I could recall, people where afraid to talk, take photograph etc,.. during that time. An average citizen where being harass and jailed and having their constitutional rights being violated like never before. How easy some people forget.

To answer both of those lasts posts, since they are equally idiotic...

    1. we are not in such a huge economic 'mess' as people keep calling it. Maybe step away from the crowd of lemmings and take a look at the real numbers for yourself and you'll see its not nearly as bad as they are making it out to be.

    2. The mortgage default/subprime issues were caused the forced deregulation by the Clinton administration. Although up until this point you did not see me bash him. But since you wanted to go down that route, lets be honest. President Bush DID address congress long before this issue popped, but was ignored (and for the record, President Obama and Senator McCain also both addressed the issue before it popped)

    3. President Clinton had numerous opportunities to stop and even capture Bin Laden while he was building his terrorist camps and creating his plans of attack. He was already a known terrorist who could have been stopped. The administration chose not to.

    4. After 9/11 we were never attacked again on our own soil and those same terrorists have been brought to their knees.

    5. To call the US anything less than great is an odd statement. Like I said earlier, in a country where your unemployed collect more than the rest of the worlds working class?

actually, it's not worth debating. If the first response can give me nothing but childish google bombs of the last president, and the 2nd response does nothing but complain broadly without defining real issues, what's the point.
