The parents of an Ohio boy who was expelled this month for creating a phony MySpace profile that described his middle school's principal as a child molester have filed a federal lawsuit claiming that the 13-year-old's free speech rights have been violated by education officials. read more at: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/0221081principal1.html
Is that real? Well.. I hope the parents get turned down. 'Freedom of speech' doesn't mean spreading slander. It's meant to give you the ability to express yourself. "Age old tradition of making fun of the principal" or not, chances are the kid knew that creating a strong rumor that the principal is a child molester would potentially get him fired or jailed. The kids only mistake was being too overt about it. You have to be subtle when ruining someones life, the fake profile was far too unbelievable.
If a 13-year-old kid is pulling schemes like this now, God only knows what kind of trouble he will cause when he's an adult. What he did isn't illegal, but I believe the kid should be disciplined somehow.
