yeah, I agree with you. It's a waste of time. It's not submit and forget, it's forget to submit. I guess part of this is due to the way editors are selected, but anyway who's going to change it. Its the most monopoly representative website these days.
If you try every 30 days then you site will go back at the end of the cue. If you want your site listed then the best way to do this is to either become and editor and hopefully submit it and hopefully someone will pick it up, other than that, don't bother. I have submitted sites to it and I am still waiting for my sites to get in. Not one out of all my sites has gone in. I don't bother with them anymore. It is just a waste of my time. One site I have been waiting for more than 3 years now, infact nearly 4 years. DMOZ is a big joke!!!
the fastest way to get your ranking up is buying them. once you have a high page rake. exchange a coulpe of links, not to many. In the mean time always try to get free link some were this i did and i feel great about getting them, the hard work pays off in the end getting free links. Later and good luck
That 's very true. It is very hard to get link exchange with a PR0 site. I always buy a few link for new site
BST froum in digitalpoint. When buying link, PR is not the only factor, you also need to check. 1) if the page rank is real 2) if it is a content page or link page. 3) total # of outgoing link 4) if you link is inside a frame that has no PR(i saw someone use this trick) 5) if content related to you site 6) if link sitewide or only on one page(Many agree sitewide doesn't carry more value than link on one page and some even suggest sitewide hurt value of link, so IMO don't paymore so sitewide untill your concern is traffic but not SEO)
Its a great way to find link partners. I wouldn't link to every site that exchanged with your competitor. I would stick to those that are highly relevant, don't have links to all different kinds of sites on the page and have less than 100 links on it total.
NO! PR has nothing to do with who you link to. PR is calculated from all the people linking to you. If the people linking to you are linking from low PR pages then they won't pass much PR to you.
I've had great results from free directories. I always check my PR tool to see if the internal pages where my link will show up have at least some PR. I now keep recip linking to a bare minimum. And I no longer bother with a free directory that requires a recip unless its PR is high (5+) with good internal PR. And avoid those directories that have a "pay option / free with recip option / free no recip option". The "free no recip" link often includes a "no follow" tag in the directory script. I have paid to be in a few directories and will problably start to do a bit more of this. I don't, yet, purchase links on other sites, but will in near future. And i have only submitted a few articles to article directories. Should do more of this.
agree with you.. I submitted my sites to it by last year. I don't know what status my sites are. no list and no response. BUT, one my site, which nerver was submitted before, get in! I think the editor was playing a joke on me..
Nowaday i only look for link that is embedded in content... i am sick of seeing my link hanging on footer or side bar..i don't care if i have to pay more, i want my link inside the main text..
As towards free directories, you can find a huge list of free ones here: http://info.vilesilencer.com/?rock=seo-friendly.php I've submitted my site to about 4/5 of them, only the one's that don't require a link on your site to them. Why? Because I don't want one page with a gazillion links on it! Plus, it helps your pagerank more if it's a oneway link. The downside to this is, the directories that require recipocal links generally have higher PR's (as I've found anyways). :/
this is a possible answer to t he above situation: when a person is applying for editorship for a certain category, he has to supply 3 suitable websites with appropriate titles and description which is not already present in DMOZ listing. So generally what happens is, they do a google search, find good sites, check with dmoz and if it is not there, give it with the application. when an editor checks the application, he also checks the three sites, and if the sites are really good, then he adds them to the directory. But, the editorship application can be declined even though ur site finds a way inside dmoz. this is a more likely situation as i have done this before. My editor's application was declined but the sites i recommened got into dmoz....
paid or free is not an issue, i think. it depends there. As for the sort of submission system to use, it all depends on what kind of site you want to build up. I have chosen not to do anything "automated" - its all manual. it keeps my site clean and growing gradually, which means I can control it. I believe this strategy will give me ever-growing results and for a long period of time. .
I use Directory submission, do -follow blog comment, social bookmarking, article submission, forums posting, yahoo answer etc
