You got remember, many more people were more highly involved.

Of coarse US was in there as well. America just experienced a year-long hostage crisis with Iran, so obviously we weren't on good terms.

Then you also have to consider whom sold Iraq weapons.

    Soviet Union.......19.2.........61%
    France...............5.5..........18%
    China.................1.7..........5%
    Brazil..................1.1..........4%
    Egypt.................1.1..........4%
    Other countries.....2.9..........6%

Ironically these about the same people arming Iran.

The US's role in Iraq was more clandestine, then most others. Literally, we have many countries digging their trenches for Iraq or others in the past, only to find they're a burden in the future. How much do you think past leaders regretted allying themselves with Russia and so-forth...only to find them an extreme enemy and danger to the world?

International poltics is not simple. Sometimes your enemies enemy is your friend...but one must remember, they're still your enemy. As idealistic as people view war, it really isn't idealism at all...it's cold-blooded praticality.

Sad, but that's the truth, though.

No funnier than the Russians being our ally durning the war, and being our sworn enemy afterwards.

The question of the thread: what is your opinion of the war? IT SUCKS!!

The poll though has options how to move forward and in what direction:

    My current thoughts:

We don't have troop levels to bring in the volume of soldiers on the ground to crush all the disparate groups that are comitting violence. We don't have troop levels to seal the borders. We don't even have troop levels to both contain violence in Baghdad and the Sunni regions.

I would move to leave. I'd try and get other nations involved....I'd try and finesse, I might talk around it...but I'd try and get out of there sooner rather than later.

I'd also rearrange mid east strategy to firm up with allies, look to boost American troop levels, redirect the staffing of the military to better handle situations like this. I'd look to tighten our ability to access oil and at the same time ramp up like a frenzied tiger to move US energy dependance to other sources. I'd also relook how to fight all the terrorist or anti US nations and look how to knock the cr@p out of potentially dangerous spread of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction.

    Just one guy's opinion.

None of this would be quick or easy.
