    Guest blogging is still effective for marketing, branding, exposure and increased reach, but for SEO purpose it has been categorized as spamming activity.

    I feel Matt is trying to tell the guest blogging will be considered as spam only if you provide low quality content with a link to spammy sites!

    Yes, if you are doing this task under google guidelines then you are not worry about it. Guest posting is still better way to build quality backlinks for the website

    Guest blogging is always painful for those who used for getting strong backlinks !!! If you used quality content with google guideline followup for guest blogging there is no worry for you !!!!

    just don't guest blog for sole reason for back links but you can guest blog if you want exposure and to show off your skills to large audience of the blog you are guest blogging, quality matter most if you want to guest blog.
