I dont know which exact unit leads to more clicks since i changed these weeks weeks, i upgraded my adsense system to 3 different units per page the ctr went instantly way up also the $ i use the largest 3 formats that alolow images and i often see nice images displayed - may be that attracts more clicks but i also see images in all 3 formats depending on pages or topcs / industry currently i use in most pages Wide Skyscraper Leaderboard Large Rectangle
Link units by far. Not only the most profitable but they seem to gather more than 1 click per visitor. I'm starting to dislike the look of AdSense, I may switch to link units alone -- they keep the site "clean" instead of cluttered
and, if the thread starter doesn't mind me asking, are people seeing more CTR with image ads than with link ads?
You are asking a good question. However, this is not a case of "one size fits all." What works for one site doesn't work for another. Google lets you set up channels for tracking your ad units. The best thing you can do it try. In my site, I run a Wide Skyscraper under my left panel menu, a Large Rectangle in the body of my text (except the index page), and a little 460x as a footer after all my articles. I've still building traffic so this is my set-up until I have enough traffic to analyze my channels. If I find I get 80% clicks in my footer, 15% from my menu, and 5% from my Large Rectangle, then I'll drop the Large Rectangle. I don't want more ads than necessary. Some sites work best with Adlinks. It all depends on the site. I'd say start by reading the adsense tip from google. They also have a hot spots grid. Then set up channels. Wait until you have a steady flow of traffic and then make your changes.
Unit links on top pays much, much more than everything else. (Unit links directly under your logo works fabulously.) The CTR for them is almost double my highest paying banner Adsense.
Wow, that's really great information. I never knew the link units were that profitable (never tried them because I didn't think they were).
For me, link units get many more clicks, but much lower per-click revenue. Large rectangles are the best overall mix -- CTR and revenue.
link unit is better because it provides more relevant ads....although Google offers section targeting but it does not work well
