I've worked in both start ups and long established e-commerce companies and wonder what general keyword ranking strategies you guys use? A bit of context from my end; When I worked in long established e-commerce companies doing keyword research, checking their difficulty and considering the sites authority, looking at rivals, this would determine the best keywords to optimise for. However, since it was a niche industry (thermal camera), nearly all traffic would gravitate to a few keywords, all other semantically linked keywords would not drive traffic. In contrast, for the startup I would try and avoid brand names in the titles and go for long tail keywords since they site has no authority, while also doing research. For both, I try getting backlinks and creating content focusing on those keywords but can't manage page one. I guess my strategy would be like: Research keywords Choose relevant yet not top ranking ones based on websites authority Optimise on page SEO with keyword Create backlinks with the keyword acting as anchor link Create content pointing to those keywords What would you guys try doing differently?
I think your strategy is pretty good and thorough as you do a lot of research before you start including keywords to the site. While you analyze keywords, you can also focus on finding ones that have highly monthly volume as it will help you reach a wider audience. Other tactics that you use seem decent and I would say you should continue doing it, as I have a similar approach while doing my own research.
I would go like this for ranking a keyword. I analyze competitors' keywords and content depending on the business and try to make better content with in-depth research and making a good internal linking structure. I get an idea of how much informational content I need to create for that money keyword because topical authority matters a lot with the recent Google updates. You can use this method to get an idea of how much topical authority is needed to create around that specific topic to rank better. Put your money keyword in google and pick the top 3 ranking results. Use the following operator "site:rank1webiste dot com + keyword". Use this operator for the top 3 websites and you will get an idea of how much content you need to create to reach at the level of topical authority to beat your competitors. Create more content than your competitors around that topic to beat them. Now it comes to link building for which the best method I personally prefer is guest posting. This guide is pretty helpful for finding prospects for picking and guest posting websites. Make sure to the blogs in your niche that you are an expert in your niche and can create valuable content for their website. This will help you build more relationships with bloggers and get more backlinks for your website naturally. The above strategies are pretty much enough for me to rank any keyword no matter how much tough it is.
Thankfully, with my nonprofit website now 17 years old, I have a well-established presence with Google, Bing, etc. So to be honest, I spend very little time doing keyword research and similar SEO. I write my articles 1) from my expertise in the particular niche topic, and 2) with the intent of giving my readers maximum helpful content. That's about all this age 78, one-man staff can handle. I do one more thing immediately after writing and posting the article. I create typically about 6 internal links to it from other pages in my website. By using descriptive anchor text in those internal links, I'm giving Google maximum emphasis on what my main keywords are in the new article. The results have been good—about 50,000 monthly visitors.
My keyword ranking strategy for the website: When I get a project, I first check the complete website, make our website SEO-friendly, and remove all the website's errors. After that, I do keywords research for the website and discuss with clients after keyword analysis, I will check the website's complete content. We don't need any types of thin or spammy content. We need fresh and unique content for the website, and after that, we need to add keywords to the website's content. Then we need to do the on-page optimization process and after that go to the off-page process for website promotions. Remember that content is king and backlinks are queen. Then we should do one thing: do our work in a quality manner using white-hat SEO techniques, which will help us get good results for a long time. In off-page optimization, we should go with 1) Listing of businesses 2) Online social networking 3) Community dialogue 4) Content promotion 5) creation of profiles Above is my keyword ranking strategy for the website.
