And what keyword density becomes, in your opinion, "keyword stuffing"?

Some people say it should be between 3% and 8%. Anymore then 10% and it might set off a red flag. It also depends on how the keywords are placed. Keywords used in lists and such seem to be ok if you go over.

I myself stay in between 1-2% but just write natural. This is the way Google is leaning now and more in the future. More emphasis on on page optimization. This is why more and more every day you might type in a search query and that word may not even be on the page at all.....but similar words that mean the same will be on the page.

what about just keyword listed in your metatags.. that's where i ran into a problem.. I had 1,100 characters (probably 75 keywords).. I slimmed it down though.. My writing is no issue

    Exactly, you are right.

Quality content it self generate keyword density.

Nothing to worry about density of keyword on a particular page try to get unique and quality content for the same.

Keyword density doesn't mean anything in google. All it does is; annoys your reader. Keyword density may be important in yahoo, but not in google.

First of all Meta Keyword Tag is become useless now as it don't get any consideration by google.
Still we are using just because we don't know, some other day google may change it's algo,
But in Meta keyword, i can suggest you upto having 250 characters, not more than that.

I think keyword density is no longer of any use. All you need to rank well is back links.

One of my site's page is ranking well for a keyword which is only present 1 time in that page containing 2000+ words.

there are no fixed rules on this. Google bases it's comparison on *market averages* or *market standards* so the BEST way to know what you should be doing and what is acceptable is by doing the following

    1. do a search in your target market google .. ie: if you are targeting Australia then google.com.au, for your main search term you are optimising for
    2. analyse the keyword density that the top 10 sites have for that specific term

using that information it will tell you near enough what Google likes and what is acceptable for your industry and that specific term.

sounds pretty easy!! .. good luck

To be honest, Keyword density has never cross my mind. I pop them in the title and in the heading tags if suitable and after that, nothing else.

do not be deceived.Key words still has a rule to play as far as google is concern.People fail to understand that google is a business and out to make profits. How foolish are we to be thinking that google can reveal what is needed to rank well on their search engine? There is a great difference between keyword stuffing and optimizing your site's content with relevant keywords.By the way,it is clear that sites content has more weight than keywords but keywords still has a great rule to play irrespective of whether the key words appear in the meta tags or not,but on-page keywords with content relevancy helps your site to stand out.It should be noted that google takes into account many things that include also how your site is designed, its navigation and links
