There's many. I personally enjoy keeping an open mind to ALL comedy. Sometimes the style of comedy can take an entire season to get into, though a really enjoyable and funny oone that has just started has to be Mr. Sunshine - It's Matt Perry ( I think that's his name) from Friends and it's 20 minutes of fast fun, so far I haven't been disappointed with one episode, and I always get onto new shows. As for some older stuff you might enjoy Boston Legal - Season 1 & 2 are PRIME and still the funniest show I ever feel was released, but you'll either love or hate it, most dumb people hate it. Robot Chicken - Usually funnier more ballsy skits than family guy, 10 minutes of awesome 'omfg, did they really just go there?' laughs. Chuck - while not necessarily a strict comedy, the first 2 seasons were really good at making me laugh, even the new seasons are still funny, they just build up to jokes more in the newer episodes. American Dad - Family Guys big/little bother Reno 911! - A funny rip off/skits about cops. It took me some time to realise the show was just taking the piss, but once I figured that out, man I had tears down me cheeks. There's heaps of Canadian ones as well, but as you said American, those should be ample to get you started
