I'm most used to XP but with a bit of practice I think Windows 7 could/will be my fave.

I was suprised to see so few linux votes in a place like this. I voted windows XP. I like vista but there is just something about XP that is quicker. We use it on all our office computers. It helps for everyone to have the same OS cuts down on pondering wtf is wrong. Hehe.

I was also suprised not to see Vista and not to see linux flavors. Usually the linux users are very particular about their flavor of the os.

Mine is XP. I prefer it over Vista. Vista has just a better GUI, but when it comes to functionality, XP is definitely great.

Archlinux for the win. It's so fast (and generally better than ubunturd...though it's good for n00bs)...I'm a minimalist, and a ricer. I use the Zen kernel with everything unnecessary stripped out, and everything necessary built in...and am using the experimental btrfs filesystem, which is very fast. I have compression enabled as well.

This is all on a laptop with dual cores at 3.2 ghz, 2gb ram, two drive bays (one has a solidstate 32gb with only 7% usage because of btrfs. the other is an ext3 formatted 120gb mechanical drive). This thing is faster than it's ever been and my kernel is only 800k uncompressed. Windows vista/xp have 60+mb kernels. These are loaded into the memory...and I have tons of free memory.

Linux is highly superior to any other OS, though OSX and BSD come in a VERY close second. I do have a windows box, since games and other things are easier to deal with out of the box on.

If you understand linux or can follow their wiki install guide, it's a really great distro.

I'd have to disagree with you on ubuntu. It's bloated, slow (compared to arch or gentoo), and not as versatile as gentoo or arch...to each their own...

XP is the best of the windoze family.
