The manga dealt with a dystopian cybernetic world where you couldn't always tell what was real and what wasn't, as you could hack into another's brain and plant memories, etc. It also took a philospogical look at what actually made a person human, and where does the human stop and the machine start. The movie merged various elements of the storylines together around the "puppetmaster" storyline, which dealt with the rise of the first sentient AI. At it's core, the Matrix shares a similar idea in a dystopian world where you don't know what's real or not (ie, almost everyone is living in the matrix, which appears real but isn't. Similar to the puppetmaster idea is Agent Smith trying to break free from the constraints of the Matrix, etc. *spoiler* and in the 3rd movie, Neo is able to use his powers in the "real" world, which he shouldn't be able to, suggesting that there is, in fact, a matrix within a matrix, in order to keep everyone focused on the 'decoy' matrix, adding another layer to the "nothing's real" bit *end spolier*) Also, The directors stated that they were inspired by GitS. This can be seen by the couple of scenes they copy, and the various elements they use from the anime.
My favorite are: Enemy of the State (1998) with Will Smith Brave Heart (1995) with Mel Gibson The Day After Tomorrow (2004) and there is more but I can't remember now
The matrix wasn’t original from an idea point of view. The Wachowskis took a lot of ideas and scenes from Ghost in a Shell, Akira, and the book Neuromancer. However, what they did with it was original. They tied all of the ideas into a great movie. I really like the Matrix, but I didn’t really care for the sequels. Quentin Tarantino is often accused of being a hack. I’d say that for most of his movies 80% of them are taken from other movies. But he takes all of those scenes, adds his own dialogue, music, scenes, and story and creates something new. He’s said himself that if you see something you like somewhere don’t do an homage –steal it.
yeah GitS was also prophecy It's funny how things like satellites, cybernetics (a professor in England has become the first "cyborg", technically, a few years ago as he attached a fiberoptic cable to the nerves in his arm, attached another to his wife's arm nerves, and then sent nerve signals through the net to her arm, causing it to twitch) the internet, robots, computers, etc were all predicted in sci fi before they came around.
city of god was great!! also shawshank redemption, fight club, dogma, there are loads of great films i cant think of. Dont think i could chose a fave
Yeah I don't think I could ever pick a favorite movie. Even my top favorite movies change from minute to minute.
Hard to answer that, indeed... I'd say: - The Stand - Orgazmo - Cannibal the musical But there's way too much good movies out there.
Only way to stop it is to stop watching movies, and allow impressions to settle down. I like Bladerunner since I was kid, but I found out strong post modern baroque note in that movie (characters, lights, architecture) recently. Now, that movie is on 3. place with 146.7 (extra 34.4) points in front of fourth (that have 743.2 points total) on my movie list.
