I just saw Sanjuro by Kurosawa. It’s one of the few by Kurosawa that I haven’t gotten around to watching yet. You can’t go wrong with Toshiro Mifune and Kurosawa.
The Matrix - 1999 Laurence Fishburne - Morpheus Keanu Reeves - Neo Carrie Ann Moss - Trinity Hugo Weaving - Agent Smith I love the entire matrix trilogy.
I found the last one to be a bit boring entertainment-wise (and sometimes a bit stupid, I mean, mechs with an open cockpit, IN THE FRONT??), but really cool effects and metaphors wise... *trivia, and possible spoilers* The Matric was based on the anime (aka, japanimation) film called Ghost in the Shell (directed by Oshii Mamuro, family name first), and even virtually copied scenes from the anime, like the agent shooting at Neo in the market place (and the watermelons being hit), and even jacking into computers via ports on the back of your neck. (the anime movie was release roughly '95, and was based on a manga [japanese comic] by Masamune Shirow which was done at the end of the 80's) In the other two films, they once again used anime as a source of inspiration. The fight on the highway copies a scene from Dragonball Z, and the climatic fight between Agent Smith and Neo is very similar to DBZ fighting in that they fly around a lot, fight in mid-air, etc (minus the fireballs and taking 10 episodes to powerup ) *end trivia*
I could have sworn ghost in the shell had to do with robots having souls, i thought the matrix was taken from japananese comic book, didn't ghost in the shell have that cloaking camiflage that look like the predator
Ghost in The shell is my favorite anime movie. I've watched the first one like twenty times. Yes they use therm optic camo and that story has a lot to do with ghosts, your memory, and the question of what it means to be human. Its similar to the matrix, and Larry and Andy Wachowski borrowed concepts from that film.
