I was thinking about starting to sell some products on Amazon.com but it all seemed a little confusing (and expensive), so I thought I would ask here. If you've sold on Amazon before, what was your overall experience? Was it cost effective? How were sales compared to other sites such as ebay?
I have been using ebay and amazon for years. And the different about two of them is the electronic sales at amazon is better than ebay. Beside that, the ebay is good place to sell to whole world compare to amazon.
Hi,i think it is a good idea to sell something on Amazon.com ,the cost effective or not depend on your business and your products.so my suggestion is that be clear that what kind of product you wanna sell on Amazon.com. Good luck to you.
The nice part about selling on Amazon is that there's no insertion fees, you can just pop in the sku and start selling without wondering if it's going to run for 7 days and then never sell, it just stays in until you remove it or it sells. The bad part is it's hard to be unique like you can on ebay with better pictures, better listings, etc. Customers more just see the product, then a list of prices.
Selling on Amazon is a great idea if you lower your prices and be competitive. If you have the lowest/lower priced product, you will sell a bunch. The first time we started selling on amazon we weren't expecting too much, but wow were we surprised with the amount of sales that came in. It increased revenue by 38% almost instantly. Just make sure you ship your products super quickly and you should be alright.
Great information, I think I may give Amazon a try, ive sold on ebay with lots of success but never tried Amazon.
I have played around with selling stuff on Amazon. I found if you can put your item a tad bit cheaper then everyone else it will be at the top of the list and sell fast.. but you have to have a good supply to sell that cheap. The shipping and selling fees are high.. I can't remember what they are exactly but when I did it I figured if I don’t sell something and make at least $15-$20 profit it is not worth my time. It is also hard to get feedback, they way they have it set up the buyer is not really reminded to give you feedback. So you can sell 50 things and only get like 8 positive feedbacks.
What about if your item is unique- a physical product that you created yourself? Then you wouldn't have to compete with everyone for the lowest price... do you think that would bring in sales?
There is an initial expense, we had to get UPC codes so we had to get a UPC account. Sales are ok - not great but then again we really haven't done any heavy promotion.
