BS - sort of. You're right, content is what makes people click. Hey guess what that content doesn't need to be good for people to click out of a website. The aim of a scraped site (or whatever you want to call it) is to leave the visitor with 2 options 1) follow a link, or 2) use the back button. Many will just follow a link. That link is what earns the money. IamNed is right, scrapers work simply because a webmaster can make so many sites/pages in a single day. They simply throw keywords at some software and out pops a site - very little effort involved. Get the site indexed and you will get traffic. Get traffic and you will get click throughs. Of course it's short term income. The sites aren't exactly going to be long term quality sites. Which means that you're effectively into another job - constantly building sites. Ideally what you want as a web publisher (webmaster) is a strategy that will bring in short, medium and long term money. short term - 6 months max. medium term - 6->24 months. long term - 24+ months. distant future - 60+ months. Remember this is the internet, things move quickly. Long term is normally 5 or 10 years plus, but there is no way you can plan any online business based on a 10 year plan - things simply change too quickly. Short term - whatever it takes to make enough money to survive whilst working towards medium term goals. medium term - quality sites that will bring in decent incomes over a 24 month period (niche sites, community sites, future authority sites, whatever). long term - using sites from the medium term that prove themselves as stayers (some of them may build into authority sites). distant future - using money earned online to earn money off line. Investments, real estate etc etc. Whether you reach the distant future depends on what ideas you have for the medium term. Many people just continually oscillate between short and medium. If you've got the drive (or just hit it plain lucky) you can obviously shorten the timescales to anything you choose. Equally, if you sit on your ass and do nothing then the timescales will lengthen. Start with what you want to achieve, then work out what you need to do to get there. Break it down into samll steps and do them.
You guys make valid points Heres my seat and take on things and you can do the math since I live it. Ill take 10 sites doing $1,000.00 each per month over 1,000 sites doing $5.00 each per month. Have a good one ... I know I will lol
10 sites doing $1,000.00 each per month is a lofty goal! I'm assuming you're going to be hiring some people to work on content and the like?
Hi dada Yes I hire writers or write only original content. I should also add I do not use just Adsense but a combination of Adsense & Affiliates which has led to over $1,000.00 per month earnings, on my one site which is at best 50 pages. EDIT - Split almost evenly with adsense at $483.00 or so and affiliate at 574.00 Hope this helps
Hi, Sorry for the newbish question but im just wondering about the 'create a site' part of the business plan. What tools do you guys use to create sites? Do you need any content management system? Or is that overkill for a site with some articles.. What about for the website layout? Do most of you guys design it yourself? I used to just code up sites (not for adsense) in notepad and for layouts, i used paintshoppro/photoshop but im thinking that must not be the way you guys do things..
UW: What you use to create a site depends entirely on the type of site - there are no hard and fast rules. I often use wordpress as a cms or Geeklog, or jamoola. Also I often use non ms code (mainly for affiliate type sites). For spam (ie scrapped sites) use one of the many content generators (or write your own). Don't listen to the fools on here that tell you scraped (ie blackhat) is for idiots - you can learn an aweful lot by trying both sides of the fence. I now know how to get a 20K page site indexed quickly - which I could never work out. Personally, to design sites I use (steal) layouts that I like. While surfing, note down urls you like. Then copy the layout. I'm a coder (or sorts) and about as artistic as a dead gnat, so all I use is text tools (ie vi). If you like gui's try things like dreamweaver (I know it's for Windows, but imho it actually is pretty decent) - it's probably the best wysiwyg web editor out there and has been for many years (and the code it generates isn't completely aweful).
I have a few friends that write and I have been considering hireing them as writers. What's do you guys pay for writers? I have no idea what the ranges are. Thanks
Um php and article generators. Then custom the menus and then do the SEO thing. UP and runing 24 hours.
Many people suggest hiring writers from sites like elance.com and scriptlance.com and paying them $5 an article. Personally, i have a hard time trusting their writing.. worried about writing style and more importantly, if it is genuine original writing.. Does anyone here have experience with doing this?
The only thing I really worry about is if its duplicant content. That can be checked via www.copyscape.com . I always make sure they test each article through that and if it returns any exact copies or partial paragraph copies, I don't accept the work. Haven't had any problems with my group of writers.
Hello I have been reading this thread, and I am very curious to what you think about... this site, and the script that is being sold here. I was interensted in buying two of them to add to my site the Govlinks, and the Ezdining. But I am not too sure what to think. Take a look here: http://www.mj99.com/scripts/ When I posted to the sites forum, and asked if the content was scraped this is what the webmaster had to say for himself: Keisha, you've been reading too many SEO forums. Seriously, of course both scripts scrape content. There's no other way to do it. Tons of great sites use scraped content including Google. http://directory.google.com Your site would never be banned simply for using duplicate content. Sounds like your site is doing great with 0 PR anyway. With GovLinks and EZDining you'd be offering your users content they might not find otherwise so you would be doing them a favor. Now it is true that you can't expect duplicate content to do all that well in the serps but who cares. Whatever you decide, good luck. This is my reply back to him: You are absolutely correct that my site is doing great with a PR 0 because it is a new domain! It has not been released in the general Google population as of yet! I am also aware that there are tons of sites that used scrape content, but I do not want to be one of them! I have had friends that were making really great money online, using scraped content, and got their sites banned from SE. So I guess it is more a personal thing than just reading SEO forums! Keisha Then he tells me that : Its not a tough choice for most people. Scraped Content - $25 Original Content - $25,000,000 So please let me know what you guys think. I know someone said that wiki's were fine. But I am not sure. Thanks! May God Bless, Keisha
Hi Keisha He forgot to mention one thing. Intent While sites use duplicate content, they are not found in the front page results unless they are using a spamming technique since under the Algo original publication gets credit all other uses get none. Next the 'intent' factor comes into play, using duplicate content to educate is not a bad 'intent' when the use of duplicate content is implemented it is by trusted sites such as ABC CBS CNN CNBC BBC etc. Again no bad intent and if you used the news or other content as is and give credit as required then your site would be seen as one with good 'intent' Others use articles on their sites as well which are not penalized and normally they will not rank in high competition keyword term. Again the 'intent' is to help their users. However when content is scraped and reassembled and has Adsense Ads placed on it then the intent changes and the violation would not fall under the organic optimization side of the search engine... but rather violates TOS of Adsense / Adwords and this will have your account and site banned. Remember when approaching any sales person. ---In a fish market they never yell "Stinky Bad Fish For Sale!!" Would you expect the man to tell you the ways you could be banned?? Great question !!
Hmm adsense basically just keep analysing my competitors , putting more content in especially niche content, also including content relevant to the site aim make site grow one page a day.
I gave this it's own reply because well it deserves one. This guy either is trying to sell insurance to dead people.... or he recently crawled out from under a rock,,,,,,, Who cares about SERPs???/ LOL
Thanks Sem Advance! I am so glad that I got a second opinion on this I knew this for a fact but, had doubts. Quess what he had the nerve to PM me, and tell me that if I buy 2 of his products he will give me one free. What a joke! Who cares about SERP's ===> I DO! Of course he has to defend himself the way he did, becasuse other valuable newbies will come along, and have no idea! This is way too funny! Keisha
Hi Keisha Glad I could help save you some money. Most people could write enough content each day to do well for themselces in a year and they could probably do that in an hour a day. Type what you know and love ...get people to it and in time it will grow.. You don't plant a seed one day and pick a tomato from it the next....
