I still believe original content rules, but sites like Linux Today make it clear that you do not have to do anything yourself to become popular. This suggests there is still room for aggregation sites with a tight focus. Perhaps building a website empire should incorporate a variety of site types. My mistake so far has been staying in my comfort zone. Unfortunately, I tend to occupy true niche markets and the income potential is limited. My plan for 2006 is to break out of that mold and broaden my appeal.
You guys are making my newbie's head spin with all this info Can someone give me a simple definition for "scraped content" - is it re-hashed stuff like you get from free-to-publish article sites? Cheers, Charles
Interesting! I was doing this without even knowing it! I guess I had an "Adsense Business Plan" all this time! LOL.
This should sum it up for you. If your a good web designer and can get your hands on or write several hundred articles, adsense should bring you significan't profit.
Here's my plan for the year 2006: // Start of the day { Browse DP Think of some new ideas Browse DP Open code editor Browse DP Close code editor (will do it later) Browse DP } * 365 // End of the day
Scraped Content = Articles from article sites, rss feeds and wikipedia articles (you are allowed to use them).
Is everybody dependant on search engine traffic to generate clicks or are there other no cost ways of generating a significant amount of targeted traffic? As fantastic a concept as Adsense is, it does seem to me to be a long term project. Phill
Sem-Advance, you got a site on nanotech eh? Pretty slick stuff. You won't have a problem marketing that site.
You could write articles, exchange links, comment on blogs (actual comments), etc... Their are lots of ways to generate traffic that is non-dependant of search engines. You just gotta think about it a little.
Actually I've posted in a few places that after sometime and site dependent here...your traffic will come from 15% search engine 80% bookmarks, external links direct typing and give or take 5% for either of the two. Instances where this would differ are realtors, high end jewelry, auto dealers. morticians, etc. These are typically rarely destination sites and will have 80% search engine traffic and 20% or less boomark rate. (I'm thinking 0% for the morticians site,,,but thats another seperate rant).... I would also say going pure adsense on a website... is pure assinine. (Though I may be guilty therefore assinine too) Moi <--Poet Laureate not lol
Hi Tesla Yes thats one I bought recently one.. I find coming up with URLs pretty easy... I like this one as it has no worry of trademark infringement and that junk... I seem to also have about 100 different business ideas that are in some sort of flux state of accomplishment. I own http://www.local-seek.com If anyone is interested in buying or more so developing a local search engine / directory. (Caveat I'll forgo scaped offers / I try to do original content sites only) I just find myself incredibly lucky and blessed. Ohh and if you want a new novel business massage therapy for pets.....think Im sane?? then your crazy.... This thread is great, Now I need to find someone who understands it so I can throw money at them to do this stuff
I agree with you ,content is the key !but you can use one day to submit your site to some directoyies.
Hi there Could I clarify what scraped content is in the context of what I learned and would love others thoughts and I will give an example. Scraped content is content taken from various pages of website(s) and then placed into a page of supposed new content. An example of how this would appear using this thread: As you can see this content is useless to users, it is done so that Adsense ads or others (Google isn't the only advertiser out there) can surround the site and hopefully generate clicks. The people who do this have no understanding that the content is what makes people click...they see others advertise, and know they must as well in order to succeed... but they do not have an understanding of the methodology of advertising ...advertising offline.. which is quite complex, and adversting online, which is even more complex. If they did, they would not have just went full circle, to end up back at go. This type of rubbish is easily mass produced and inundated the SERPs and brought about the need for the jagger update. Anyway just my 2 cents... hope this helps explain a bit better.
Scapers can work because the webmaster makes sooooo damn many of them. A million pages a site and 10 sites a day. My goal is to build a site a day for a month. Then promote them all.
