After continuously having good amount of traffic daily, my attention is not focused on having traffic anymore but on my bounce traffic. I assumed that the high percentage of my bounce traffic came from Stumbleupon so I decided to remove the stumble icon from my site...

My bounce is averaging 48% and my lowest so far is 27% last week... I am closely monitoring my site traffic to lower this to at least 15%...

Let me know your point of view on this...

Bringing the bounce rate down to 15% would be a great achievement obviously depending on your levels of traffic, however is that such a good idea to remove the stumble upon icon, although it will decrease your bounce rate why not leave it there and work on decreasing the bounce rate with it there. Much more of a challenge, and at least that way you will have more traffic there for more popularity.

I think there is no way to lower bounch from STU aside from increasing organic traffic to offset those bounce contributed by STU... This is actually a great challenge and I am doing some trial and error to meet this target.. Seems impossible but I will try and see if how far I can go..

Yeah i can imagine it to be quite difficult i have not yet got to the traffic level i want to be at or else i would be doing the same.

STU traffic is definitely hard to make them go to another page, just a couple of things you could try doing generally are

    Home page excerpts of articles
Make a competition and announce it on the home page, therefore people would click through to the competition page
Widen your sites audience through a different niche

Could say more but it really depends what your sites subject is.

Another good idea that can be added I think is posting useful related topics...

People usually leave a website when they don't find what they are looking for or when the website fails to match their anticipation. If you where getting good traffic from SU but was coupled with a high bounce rate, maybe the above mentioned factor was playing a major role in making this happen. Simply removing the link is like cutting off a great traffic source. Adopting a more judicious approach and trying to find the reason behind it would be advisable.

The bounce rate can vary a huge amount depending on the content quality and type of site you are managing. Some would always have a higher bounce rate than others.

I get around 50% or so. I have all original content and highly targetted visitors, I guess the price of my products is too high (as im about the middle of the road for my product price)

There is no 'right' figure of bounce rate. It all depends on your site, the topic etc.
It is nice to see traffic rising with a little help from social bookmarking sites, etc. But it is more important to have the right kind of visitors. Having a 1000 visitors that leave within a few seconds or having 50 visitors that buy something. What do you prefer?

I had a pretty low figure for traffic on my blog, but with a bounce rate of less than 15%. Then I started to use Entrecard. The number of visitors tripled in no time, but so did my bounce rate. All Entrecard traffic is only coming to my blog to drop a card, nothing else.
Anyway, I'll leave it this way. Not for the traffic, but for the credits, which I will use to get some real traffic. (hopefully)

This is not related to SEO. If you are talking about bounce rate from organic listings, things would be different.

I had a bounce rate of over 50% on one of my arcades. It took awhile but I have focused on lowering it and it is now about 32%.

Think about what makes you 'bounce' and address those issues with your own site and you can drop your bounce rate.

    Best of luck!

    I agree and disagree..

"A lot of visitors to site A are looking for very specific information - which they get on that first page, and so they leave happy and don't explore the site further. Site B lends itself to being explored more (maybe a photo gallery site or forum) where you would expect the visitor to see more pages"

    Of course not organic...

Stumbleupon is the major contributor to my bounce traffic having a high 91%... Google has 18%, forums have 33%, and other sources got around 40%...

True but bounce rate can't be completely erased. SE's list sites for all sorts of weird keyword combinations and these don't necessarily fit what the user is looking for.

Of course, the highest % of bounces are from Stumbleupon (blind--only category based), Entrecard (fellow webmasters just intent on dropping--with an occasional reader mixed in), and rotating link traffic exchange programs (these could be useful if category-targeted)
