Maybe the PR hijacking works on Sergey and Brin's brains. Get your local brain surgeon to do a greymatter refresh to their brains and you will inherit all their properties including knowledge of the algo's. Worth a try... On a more serious note but equally hard to achieve: Get dmoz listings. Onze distributed to all directories using their data, yuo will get hundreds of free links. Also: join the coop network.
Yes RSS is going to get bigger and it's best to start using it now. Also on the ~keyword thing in google. This is a good tip I was going to suggest. When writing content page that will be targeted for a keyphrase with something like the word "camera" in it do a search for ~camera and make sure to include the words that Google bolds for you. in this case Google bolded these words in association with "camera" - canon - photography - video - webcam - cam you get the idea I hope. Just make sure to include these words in your copy if you can.
define:cloaking Hey! about this ~ operator, am i the only optimizer on the planet that didnt know about that then? - that's great.. er, but what exactly does it do?
I know cloaking in that sense. It is a bad thing; if google catches you, are gone. I was wondering why it was seconded. Traffic power used to do this and got sites banned. Unless I missed the sarcasm in the reply
the ~operator just shows related words that google notices for the word you put the ~ in front of. Think of it like a second tier KW to the main KW you are targeting. Chances are you will include them by nature in whatever KW you optimize for. But by doing a search with that ~ operator in there you will know what Google is also "looking for." Some people call it Google Ontology. Here is a link to the page I first read about it at. http://www.gorank.com/research/google_ontology_analysis.php And you can use the goRank Ontology Finder here: http://www.gorank.com/seotools/ontology/ It doesn't make leaps and bounds in your placement, but it definitely can't hurt, and only seems logical. Who knows Google might start using this a a major weight attribute someday. Better safe than sorry.
I think that's pretty useful, thanks very much for the links I'd hit your rep but im running a little low and it wont count for you thanks again, this has turned out to be a pretty neat thread
Cloaking is useful for SEs if you use it the right way. As long as your content to the user and the search engine is the same, you will have no problems. For example, if you had a webpage where you wanted to count every click using redirects but wanted Google to see all your links, you serve the user a page with the redirect links and the spiders a page where the redirects where substituted for the actual urls.

Who knows what the big G is thinking...I try and keep the faith whilst realising that I have no idea about the agenda of something very important to my income. Links. Integrity....
ignore Google - concentrate on the site and it's visitors - link selective - build alternative traffic. (Optimise for anyone single SE today and you may be gone tomorrow) M
