After optimizing site. Link to it from existing site that gets spidered regularly and submit to DMOZ. Then go back to link building.

    Besides the links and content?

Choose your titles carefully and make sure you have fresh ones for each and every page. And anchor text in links to match!

My best tip is: Filenames are weighted heavily in the SERPS algorithm.

Come back every 5 years and email one of the editors asking why the site isn't listed yet. Then go back to link building. Repeat ad infinitum.

Change content frequently. Track keywords for changes. Change content again for keywords not doing well. Rinse and repeat.

Submit to directories (no not that one... I mean directories that will actually list your site).

Link to sites that will interest your visitors. Let the sites know you've linked to them and that this is not conditional on them linking back. Mean it.

Minstrrel, I have truly had exceptional luck with DMOZ. I did a site around Christmas of last year and wash shocked early spring to see several hundred new backlinks at the time of one of the backlink updates. When I checked they were all scraped from DMOZ. With DMOZ nothing ventured, nothing gained. The worse that can happen is that you will be ignored.

Now I do have one site that never appeared. Se la vie ?sp.

C'est la vie, but you were close :D

I've been "lucky" too, I guess. That doesn't alter the fact that hundreds or thousands haven't been.

But I didn't mean to hijack this into another "DMOZ sucks" thread (I've already contributed to several of those) -- it was meant more tongue in cheek.

Build well structured, content rich pages that please the surfer, and get inbound links...

    That's basically all, I guess.

He didn't post in in the SEO forum so it can be either way but judging from choice of Forum, it could well be search related IMO. The initial quote hints on SEO though...

I guess my thread should have said what is your best google seo tip? But now that I look at the threads it seems good google seo tips and good tips for google searchers can be the same thing.

I would like to add two tips. One it is the synonym and exclude uhm search thingies. I have no proof but it could be a tip on experiment with for yourself.

In the google search bar I type my keywords cheap rims like this for each keyword: ~cheap -cheap. Highlighted in my results are Buy buy discount USED used bargain last minute(?) last-minute.

and ~rims -rims yields wheel Wheels alloy wheels rims you get the idea.

I noticed that the first site in google quite a bit of synonyms and synonyms of synonym. This could be keyword stuffing but I have also read snippets that said google may consider this increase relevance. shrug

Second it also give word suggestions to put in my copy. Like "last minute" Are there customizing or repair shops looking for last minute ordering of cheap rims? shrug I dunno but I will be glad to offer the service <insert evil grin>

My second tip is Shannon's from this thread linking tip for affiliate marketers of "shopping mall" type sites.
