Hi , People who read this section , i expect are all forum admins or people interested in forum softwares . I have recently made a post about : What is wrong with vbulletin 3.7 , which obviously is a personal opinion . Let me know what you feel about it , if possible by commenting .
I use vbulletin, i like that software since the version is 3.0.7 and now i have to have good server to build forum with vbb too many things, you are right
you can probably turn off some , but people / your members will still know that is possible and might easily request ., thus raising overheads .
ah, that's not that big of a deal. The problem that I see is that it maybe too big making it one more complicated to use and secondly take up more space and bandwidth in turn slowing down the site badly if you got a big forum.
I was interested in finding out people's views on the same topic here: http://www.adminfuel.com/are_forums_no_longer_forums-t1097.0.html I personally don't think it is wrong if they are modules are can be turned off so that your forum runs on it's bare, old, forum bones.
ditto I like the new features, and if it makes your member feel more "a part" of your site, then it must be good..
I think vb 3.7 is an excellent step forward, its contains even more ways to be part of the forum community.
most of you are not on the point I have blogged about actually . I am not posting against vB , but posting against it staying in its core features . Many of you run quite successful forums , I am sure . But probably that is directed towards webmasters , who are web savvy . My point being , a forum is a message board primarily ... it needs people to remain in posting threads - not beautifying their profiles ala MySpace.com . My point being a forum does not necessarily require a Picture gallery .
vbulletin rocks! no doubt. Would you rather have tons of mods available for you and choose to disable whenever you like? Or would you rather have a forum where you can't even control your own members. lol
Like my forum MiniBB has to be the WORST ever. Look at ThinkArcades spam forums. Then look at any vB forum - completely spam-free.
yes , the advanced spam blocking techniques added in vbulletin 3.7 or before is one of the good things in it , which i have duly mentioned in my blog on vB 3.7 . I am totally in favor of adding such measures which aid in forum management . IMO , addons or mods don't exactly make your job easier ... rather increases it , not only introducing the feature and educating users, but also upgrading ( here , though not needed ). I am all for adding features for better forum management , not mismanagement . I still run a forum ( quite slow nowadays), with over 37000 users and 25 mods .... and I have spent quite many a days just educating my moderators about the new features , so that they can effectively help when a novice user asks for help .
