Just signed up a shared windows hosting plan with Godaddy and trying to install a blog. I found few scripts programmed with ASP but some of them didnt work on Godaddy hosting and the others dont have the functions am looking for. So ASP gurus what kind of script you are using for your blogs that has the perma link function and has the ability to emulate ModRewrite in apache, something that you can say it is Wordpress counterpart in ASP
It is an IIS issue really rather than ASP/ .Net There are 2 free components for rewriting .Net URLs but their "problem" is that they will only trigger once it is confirmed that the page must go through the .Net framework (ie the link must end in .aspx or there must be a real .aspx file for directory links - eg http://www.mydomain.com/somedirectory/) It can be fixed by pushing all requests through the .Net framework but this first of all adds load to the server and secondly you arent going to get a shared server that is likely to make the changes and certainly not one the size of GoDaddy - our smaller UK host will do it but charge a one off fee for making the change. That said, if you accept the limitation then you can fairly simply add the component to an existing piece of software or custom written (we use one in http://www.phonecallsearch.com) alternatively there are CMS systems with built in ones like DotNetNuke
