What is wordpress and can i get good site through wordpress?

I am just in search of that what is wordpress? Can i get good site through wordpress? OR can i promote my site while it is in wordpress format? Please answer my all these questions. Thanks in advance.

in my experience wordpress was hard for me in the beginning because of all the things available but now I don't look back anymore I think it is the best blogging platform out there.

Great answers and I would emphasise that Wordpress is very Google friendly especially if you take the time to optimise it with SEO all in one plugin etc.
