What is with the google "promote" button

    I assume this topic has already been covered in this forum, but in a nutshell, I have just two questions.

    1. What in the heck is the promote button? Does it only effect the way the rankings appear on your computer or does it have an effect overall?

    2. How can one use this tool when SEOing one's site, how much pull does this button have?

    It only appears when you're signed in to your google account and it only effects your personalised results - which are alreday different to what everyone else sees in serps, as it 'personalises' according to your web history.

    Its possile that in the future google will use this information to improve their search results, but I guess we will never really know unless they tell us.

    each user will have its own SERP? I guess they are already doing it by countries
