notepad ++ is great, DW and MS access are good for dynamic stuff... It's much, much easier not to hand code your queries each and every time.

We are thinking Front Page is probably the absolute worst thing you can use. Even dreambeaver is better than Front Page. The current version of Front Page is now called ExpressionWeb, which is a little better.

The best editor really depends on what you want. I use gEdit when I need to edit at my server simply because I have it set up to connect via SSL there, but for any development on my machine locally, it's vim or gvim.

Here's a quick way to check how easy it is to learn an editor:

You can use vim remotely, too, easy enough.

Sure, but I'm lazy and haven't set it up yet : )

Though I could also do it entirely in the terminal and just manually ftp or ssh too, but gvim has my preferred colour scheme that I can't seem to get for terminal vim : )

Yeah I tend to go with plain vanilla with everything I do cause I just don't have the time (or take the time) to read the man page and experiment. I also do most things with the terminal.

You can still set a color scheme on the remote server to give you the colors you want, though.

I use Dreamweaver a lot since I feel comfortable with it, but if I can't reach my computer and really need to get into the code then I use Notepad++.
I think you can do all the things you want in notepad to, just I'm used to Dreamweaver.

I use Ultraedit. Have to admit that I cracked it way back when during my evil hacking days (it's used as a stepping stone for advanced beginners and those starting out in the scene) but I even went ahead and paid for it officially.

I just downloaded Notepad ++. It looks great!

I like to use Dreamweaver, but its just so resource intensive.
