A lot of advice about SEO and ranking well on google says that to rank well a site should have good, unique content. Does anyone have more info on what this means? For example, if someone has a site about web design and doing a related: search on Google returns no sites, does this mean the content of the site is unique and therefore more worthy of a good rank?
With over 400 posts under your belt and 4 links in your sig somehow I think you already know the answer. Unique content is content that's unique... Not sure how else to explain it.
No I don't. I've never done an experiment. Most times I hear unique content being referred to as a good thing it seems to be referred to as a means of link bait, i.e. something people want to link to. Is unique content the same as attractive content or is it worthy simply because there isn't something else like it?
Unique content means that you have to make an article that was not made by the other people. The other word do not copy an article than put into your website. To make it search the tittle to know is there a article with same tittle. If there is not, use this tittle.
Unique content also means you can study others content, and add your opinion, rebuilt the articl structures.
I would like to add - copied content by RSS-feeds means nothing for Google. Maybe for other SE's that looks good.
Unique content is that which is not found elsewhere. The definition of "unique" is not an easy one as clearly all web pages have content on them that IS everywhere else - such as single words and common phrases. the idea is to ensure a "high degree of uniqueness" (although I realise the grammatical paradox in that statement) By being "as unique as you can" you can then be differentiated in the search engines. This, in itself, will not guarantee rankings but it will help a lot - especially if that unique content is added to on a regular basis. What google looks at is the whole page rather tahn simply the articles or content you put up on them. therefore, any words or phrases in teh menus, templates, headers and footers will all count towards their appreciation of the page. Don't forget that images and javascript do not count for google and therefore will not be assessed in the uniqueness measurements.
Unique content is what's not on any other websites - just unique to your website. Unique content works wonders for anyone's site. DP is a prime example. It started off with tools and now exploded into one of the most popular forums online.
Thanks Hank & Forgotten Creature for reading the questions in the original post and furthering the argument.
Dear You can check the site content whether it's unique or not at the following address http://www.copyscape.com Hope this helps you. Regards Tehmina
WOW! OK anything you write yourself or code yourself or design yourself is unique content because it cannot be found any were else. I suggest using a dictionary and looking up the two words next time.
Well, this simply is not true. Although I could compose something that was NOT unique, I could certainly outsource the creation of unique content. The statement about "composing yourself" has nothing to do with unique content. Some of the best ways of getting unique content are: 1. asking visitors for reviews 2. asking visitors for comments 3. hiring a ghostwriter 4. swapping articles with another web owner 5. public domain works
The phrases used should never be found on another blog without credit to you. http://www.copyscape.com - use this to check
Exactly! [EDIT] but... It seemed that Brian meant sometings else. After having received a pm from him the question should have been: The answer to that question is: Yes, because there are no matches your optimized page will become the only match google may find. But a better question you may ask is whether people are really searching on that query. There is a SEO game called Googlewhacking. As you know Google has a damn large database and the aim of this game is to enter a query consisting of two words(without using qoutes) that returns only on result from the database. And that is actually what you wanna achieve by making a page for a no-match SERP. In the game though, the words must both be real words found in the dictionary. so if you see "Results 1-1 of 1", you've got yourself a Googlewhack.
