What is Twitter?

Can someone give me the lowdown on what twitter is and what are the benefits of using it in your online business? I figured it had to do with social bookmarking, but I'm not 100% of exactly how it works.

I think the idea is to get lots of followers and begin shouting your websites.

 

It's a social networking website that is getting high up there with the other "top dog" social networking websites. It's getting very popular nowadays and you can bet it'll be the target of many advertisers.

 

Twitter is an online equivalent of speaking to the deaf that want to listen

 

If you have lot of followers in your list , twitter can bring a lot traffic to your websites .

 

Ya, you got it right, it is a social network. What people do here is make a small post about what they are up to. These posts or updates do not have to be about what someone is doing. It can be about any interesting news or stories you want to share. The upside is you can get the most recent news about any topic you are interested in if you follow twitter. It is not uncommon for people to update their account several times a day.

You build a friends list almost the same way you would do in myspace or facebook, but here people use the term "follower". You follow the people you want to and there are other people who will follow you.

It is getting more popular these days as you can tell. Some people use it effectively for their business too. Nice way to get connected.

Is it something like a personal blog type of thing because i am interested in this also especially if you can use it for promoting your business etc.

It's good for connecting with people, but Twitter doesn't bring in buckets of traffic unless you're sending more than links. You have to get people to "stalk" you and want to check out what you're doing in your life and not just your website before Twitter brings in big traffic.

It's pretty much a blog but with short posts. If you use myspace, then you'll know what I mean when I say Twitter is a lot like the 'status' box in myspace where you put what you're doing. That sort of thing

Just joined up it looks very easy to use.

 

Twitter is one of the best web 2.0 sites IMO, and can be a powerful marketing promotional tool.

It's not a social networking site at all. It's a micro blogging site if you had to describe it.

It is a chatting type site where your can spam with your sites. Everything is no follow and most people just post crap. It is fun right now because Name cheap is running a contest and giving away three domains every hour for the whole month of December. I won two so far. Otherwise, I find the whole twitter thing worthless.

 

Yeh basically people just type updates where they are and stuff and there friends can see it. I don't think it's good for marketing
