    "A trackback URL is where somebody posts a link to their site on your site. In return, they have posted a link to your site on their site and have copied an article you have written."

    A track-back is one of three types of link-backs, methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking, and so referring, to their articles.

    Some web-blog software programs, such as Wordpress, Movable Type, Typo, Drupal etc... are using it.
