What is too high (CTR-wise)?

I've got some really good placement on ads on one of my sites and I'm worried that because of this, my CTR is too high. I don't want to share my CTR, as it is against Google TOS and might taint answers to my question... but anyway...

What CTR % is getting too high to where I'll start having to worry about getting in trouble for it... ?

I think anything above 10% is considered to be high.

Someone else on here said that CTRs above 6% start getting attention from Google. No-one except Google employees really know, of course.

Ultimately, if you're in some sense tricking visitors into clicking your ads (thanks to your "really good placement"), then the advertisers won't see returns on their investment (i.e. advertising using Google) and will either drop out or bid less in the future. And that would be bad for all mankind.

So strike the balance between getting ad attention but not insincere clicks!

I have seen 7% - 13% with no problems. However, in my experience, the traffic origin has much more to do with the eCPM than the CTR. Traffic that originates from natural search (search engines) generally will perform better than traffic from social networking.

The reasoning is that people who came from natural search were actively looking for something and have a higer chance of converting than someone who ran across a link through a social network site that took them away from their original activity.

Yeah, the ads aren't in a "tricky" location. They just are highly visible, something I usually don't do. Anyway, all the traffic is from search engines, primarily Yahoo for some reason which is not usual for my blogs. I've noticed higher pay per click on this site than others which I'm happy about, but just a little worries about the CTR. Thanks guys!

I had some 'well placed' ads on my wallpaper site with a CTR of 8% and I received a warning email from google.

whattt? by well placed, I am guessing you broke some rules regarding placement. (cannot be right on pictures... etc)

I stick mine right in the middle of content and see 10+%

I have two websites that have 18%(2 years and counting) and 27%(4-5 years and counting) CTR and none of them has received yet any "special attention" from Google.

As long as you're not against the TOS, I doubt that even 50% is too high. It's high, yes, but as long as it's within the TOS you should be fine.

Please don't ask me to link the sites as I will not do that.

Yeah I recently looked up the adsense 'Hot Spots' and just above the main content or middle of the content are ideal placements for ads

Lol, I won't be linking my sites either. I've noticed a ton of people have been clicking links in my signature thinking it'll take them to the site, but those are my other sites. I'm keeping the site private for obvious reasons, so Google doesn't suspect foul play.

The highest my CTR has ever been is 2.54% ... however I mainly get 0.80% - 1.70% daily (which is obviously safe). I'd think about 4%-5% is slightly high though.

hey guys. I have an idea that is going to land me a really really high CTR with not a lot of traffic. Its nothing against the TOS, im not telling them to click on any ads but im pretty sure most of them will. Basically im going to send them to my site (type in traffic) and they won't get what they expected so they are going to click on my ads to try to find it elsewhere. Should I try it? Or is it going to be an automatic ban?

Why don't you start a new thread with your idea? Also, yes that is against Google TOS.

Google says that CTR can be 40-50% and still be ok with adsense as long as you don't make anything against TOS.
