One way link building - a link from A to B(You) Reciprocal link building - a link from A to B(You) and a link from B(You) to A Three way link building (Triangular link building) - a link from A to B(You), a link from B(You) to C and a link from C to A

However, it can occur naturally (like when site A links to site B because site B posted a quality relevant article that site A thought its readers would find useful, then site C linked to sites A and B - let's say it's a blogger reporting on something, and he cited his sources - and then site A linked to site C in a separate Web page praising sites B and C for mentioning their article), so it's obvious that Google won't discount those types of links.
