What is this video site maps introduced in webmaster tools?

    What is this video sitemap, i just check webmaster tools and found it there. When ws it introduced and is it for like video hosting or embedding sites/???

    Video sitemaps are only new in Webmaster Tools as separate info. You have been able to submit video sitemaps for a long time in Google Webmaster Tools. Here's a video sitemap tutorial if you are hosting videos yourself.
