What is this strange email regarding my domain? (and should I be concerned)

I recently got an email from someone claiming to be with Beijing Anwins Network Service Co, regarding something about my domain name. From what I gather, it appears that they are trying to trick me into giving up my domain name, or are trying to take it by deceit - but I have never seen this before. I tried to Google the company, and the context of the message, but came up with no tangible clues. Due to the broken English, I'm having some difficulty deciphering it. Please help.

Just a scam trying to prey upon your fears of losing control of your domain trademarks. Just trash it. Received tons of these. Some of them even called up trying to scam you.

    That's complete spam.

What they are TRYING to say is that some random company has created a site and company with a name very similar to yours. This China company is 'offering' to help you protect your name by properly getting everything copyrighted and trademarked. Thats what they claim any way.

Got this from user 'bob' @ searchengineforums.com

    Got your answer? :p

its a scam as the others noted...but it is interesting to see how easy it can be to lose your domain name if of course you were to believe those emails or lose money trademarking them in china lol

I wasn't about to take part in it, but since it's never come to my attention before, I figured I had better educate myself. When I got the email, it reminded me of the "sex.com" fiasco... :D

    Knowledge is power.
That said, I absolutely agree with everyone who said that the e-mail was probably spam/a scam.

I've seen a thread on one of the forums (don't remember which), about a company that name (or very similar). They'd sent an e-mail (in slightly less broken English) trying to get the .com owner of a domain name to register the .cn or .asia version ...for their own protection.
They e-mail came off sounding like a legal threat of some sort.
