There is a difference between oversellers starting small since 1996 and oversellers starting a week ago...

Even though that is a good point, doesn't mean that its a "good thing to do".

Overselling is just a big gambling game, and they are at the point now where they can actually afford it and still make a good profit. That is why people starting out with unlimited packages always fail, if they don't know what they are doing or they are just not well funded.

not quite right .... look at mellowhost for example.. they offer master reseller for $6.95/month. I've been with them since December 2007 and their server is still with the same performance

you're right. overselling is not a problem at all.

Overselling is lying. You can't give what you don't have. I wish DP staff would ban all unlimited hosting offers. Because of these crappy unlimited reseller plans my thread for NON-oversold vps' doesn't even get noticed that much.

I agree, I ended up closing my sales thread because it got way off topic and into a discussion and competition of who offers better.. and who does what..

But I think alot of these failed hosts and scammers are a bunch of kids who want o make a quick buck. They dont take the business seriously.

And then those that want you to give them the world for free..

Being a new user to DigitalPoint and coming from WHT, I am amazed at the stupid and crazy deals that are offered on this forum. I can tell just by reading the topics that more than half of the deals on this forum are scams, they just can't be offered by a host that wishes to sustain themselves. I will soon be selling on this forum, but don't expect any crazy offers from myself. I aim to stay legit and offer a service that not many have received on this forum. Thanks.

It is right that scammers come to DP and scam, but there are many new members who are genuine and are running their own hosting company since a year or two. They want to sell their products through DP. Many established memebers do not want the newbies to compete with them or share their buyers. They harass these newbies and try to kick them out of DP. Instead they should guide and encourage the newbies. I expect the seniors to keep a positive approach and not disturb the healthy competetion on DP. Sale of web hosting space is not every thing, the clients also deserve good services and support which only very few companies like us provide.

Not really. It's a given if you pay $1-$3 a month for a hosting you will get burned soon. If you raise your budget you will get a provider who has server clusters with Raid HD's to deliver client's websites.

Most people I see on DP have a server with 1 standard 7200RPM hard drive...once that fails, people loose their website, databases, and emails because all that stuff was jammed onto ONE server.
