Web Directories contain a collection of Websites and function in much the same way as a search engine. The big difference is all sites have been reviewed before being included in the directory, and the listings are categorized. The purpose? Well, to gain backlinks and some traffic. Although most directories don't send much traffic but are helpful in building link popularity. Just make sure to use the proper anchor text as your title when submitting.
Directories mean collection of websites. With all theme and any PR. These are free and paid. It is depend on you.
The directories are the **** webmaster's favourite way of wasting his time so that he could sit there crying and shouting: "I did submit to thousands of directories but I haven't had any clicks and no PR yet, aarg" Everybody hates meee, aargh!!!
Nobody hates you, but this snowbird questions your experience and methods with directory submissions. I have PR 4 sites, with plenty of internal PR, which have backlinks only from free directories. And the sites rank well for their keywords. Normally the people that whine directories don't work are PR chasers - only submitting to the highest PR free directories. Many others do this, so submissions can sit for 6+ months. And it is open to debate if most of these submissions are even reviewed by high PR free directories. I offer some directory submission tips for anyone interested. Directories are no silver bullet. They will help you rank well in low competition niches. For more competitive niches other link building methods should be used in addition to directories.
Try looking for directories in your niche that actually get some traffic. You'll have a better chance of getting some hits from those types of directories. Just keep submitting every day to the general web directories and it'll help your search engine rankings.
