What you're asking is worthy of an essay, not a few lines of reply on a forum. Your coding skills, while useful, aren't going to be entirely relevant to you. I started off in software development but soon learned that server administration skills were much more important in this kind of job. You need to have good server admin skills (only really comes from experience), the ability to problem-solve and think laterally (critical), be able to survive with little sleep until you can afford to start employing people, have a burning desire to grow your business and be succesful, and get to know your target market. You'd probably be better off with a Reseller account as much of the responsibility for keeping things running are carried out by your host. If you want to get really big then you will eventually need to get your own servers, so use your time as a reseller to acquire these skills either by training, volunteering, or damn hard work. Choose your hosting company wisely. Saving a few bucks in your pocket from a cheaper host isn't going to go down well with your customer base if things go wrong, and don't forget that if things DO go wrong IT'S YOUR FAULT for choosing the wrong host. Don't pass the buck, deal with it, take responsibility, sort it out, keep customers informed, and they will stay with you. Choose a really good hosting company who will help you grow your business rather than one who is rigid in their operations. I've seen some of our customers start with reseller accounts, move onto dedicated server or VPSs where we still provide a lot of infrastructure for them (control panels, accounts on our email servers, FTP servers, DNS servers, DB Server and backup) and as time goes on they start to take over more and more of these functions themselves until they have several servers of their own, to ultimately just providing colocation facilities for them. All along the way these customers have brought is additional customers for us and we still enjoy a good relationship with them even though they are "competitors" in the strictest sense. Exploit all your customers (in the nicest way of course). Ask for recommendations, give then an incentive to recommend your business, and do a good job for them. Network as much as possible with local businesses and don't be afraid to ask for their business. Join the local chamber of commerce or join a "breakfast club" or other social business organization where you can meet other business people. Understand that when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, reliability is more important than features, and profitability is more important than turnover. Be willing to re-invest in your company, constantly improve, be willing to make a small loss if it's part of your long term strategy, be prepared to worry about where you next mortgage payment will come from, and when you start to make some money plough it back into the business to make it better, more reliable, larger, and faster. Hosting is a hard business. Unlike an office where you can go home in the evening, you are on-call 24/7 because your business operated 24/7. Be prepared to be awake at 3am dealing with support requests. Be ready for monitoring alarms to go off at the most inconvenient times and be willing to drop what you're doing to fix it. Forget going on holiday for the next few years until you are employing people you can trust to look after things for you...it's your business after all. And if you think you're going to make a quick buck with little effort, don't even contemplate it.
Reseller would be good option to start with, and once you start getting good clients, you could switch them to dedicated server.
thank you all. please tell me about the best web hosting company that I can start getting reseller from it.
To be honest, customer support these days is what makes the difference between you "making it" or "failing it". Be sure that if your customers get annoyed by your customer support, they will have no hesitation to post bad reviews about your company. So, my advice is get somebody who "cans speaks english" (or the language that will mainly be used by your target customers) and make sure they don't ignore technical issues. If you want to know what a proper support team should be, learn from IxWebhosting and check UK2.net to find out how to get rid of all your customers by employing dumb a**es in your customer support team.
Make sure you are there when your clients need you, and try to make your clients always happy and satisfied.
Hello, maybe you should start with being a designer then you can offer your clients webhosting with there designed website and you can grow from there! There are a lot of beginner web hosts that end up failing because they simply don't know what they are doing, so easy into the business and learn. -Hosterbox
I think you were customer of any other company you liked. So try to follow them and build the best service providing.
Yes, start off as a reseller and then begin to expand as it will be pointless to expand without money coming in. For technical support, you can hire an external company to deal with your clients queries or run a little group of staff yourself.
