    Hey Guys,
I was wondering whether or not one could build a solid linking strategy in google from directory listings?

Do these compare to natural links?
Are there any specific things I need to do to get maxium out of these links...

The answer is a definite absolutely positive maybe.

I have scores of listings in the DMOZ directory, which is where Google's directory comes from, and I personally wish Google would totally ignore DMOZ.

Why not go for both? Do all kinds of link building. Directories do help but that does not mean you shouldn't do any other kind of link building...go for both:)

Web Directories have specific topics so getting on those pages will get you relevant backlinks to your website. And maby some traffic.

Check the backlinks to the web directory. Check the cache date of the specific category. Look if the outbound links are seo-friendly. And the less listings on a category page the better backlink you'll get from the directory.

    I wouldn't, it's too expensive.
In general i try to avoid them because i don't have a links page in my sites. That makes it hard to link back to every directory i submit.
