What is the use of Directory?

    Hi

    As reading many posts from many places, I want to ask myself and others.
    What is the use of directory/

    1. To Increase Traffic?
    2. To Increase Rank?
    3. To Increase SERP?

    I have seen some people saying Directory Doesnt do anything above or Does it?
    What is main core function of Directory then?

    Up until two months ago Directories were used to buy and sell PR in a crazy merry-go-round which has resulted in a lot of people losing money. Consequently PR is only mentioned in whispers these days. Traffic is a non issue since the average user does not look for directories to search for stuff they want. But that might well change, if directory owners manage to get their head around the realities of this industry. Links from directories do however count a back links and it does pay web masters to use them to build back links to their web sites. The question is what is the real value of a back link and this is something you can only calculate over the projected lifespan of both sites.
