What is the use of ad_slot ?

    I was trying to put adsense sharing into my blog with the help of author advertising plugin. Then i noticed the google_ad_slot in the adsense codes.
    What is this ad_slot ? is it necessary to set it?

    For adsense sharing, i thought only pub-id is necessary, should i allow users to enter their ad_slot?

    what it does is give your ad unites a unique ID and you can manage these ads in the adsense ads slot, mostly its about colors only since size is specified within the ad code that is added to the site, this feature is to increase CTR by changing colors of the ads from time to time, a little change can certainly increase CTR.

    its basically the channel to keep track of which ad unit generated what kind of impression and click

    so i don't need to ask my authors to put the ad_slot. I can manage the ads and only pub id is required for their ads to show.
