I've been running YPN for a couple of months and I'm still a bit confused. The ads are supposed to be contextual, but what what is the context? Is it actual text on the webpage, title, metatags, alt or something else? I'm getting different ads on basically similar pages so I'm struggling to find a formula. As a matter of fact, I'm getting different ads on the same page with different browsers... Anyone know for a fact?
You would get different ads at different times because these programs try to not show the same person the same ads too often. So ads are rotated.
I find that what really is the targeting truth is this: AsSense seems to have ads that are related to every subject, or very close anyway. YPN has a lot less subject matter when it comes to related ads, so targeting is unfortunately wayy off a lot of times with ypn. It matters very little about your titles, keywords, text, etc is theres no such ad subject related ads to display..........
I would love to get some better ads on my site. I am tired of getting dropshipping , wholesale ads on my video game website.
A combination of ad-blocking and some tweaking of keywords/text in page has worked pretty well for me. Takes some effort and a bit of time, though
i have tried everything with my site even had help from a YPN rep and they couldnt even get it to target correctly or even close but as long as the pay is good i dont really care that much
Pelle. I each page of my site is based on one keyword.. The density is off the charts, but I can't seem to get the ads targeted. Also ypn doesn't have a gaming category that I can associate my site with to get relevant ads. Can anyone suggest a category that would help. Thanx. Stan
Well I know for Myspace sites which tend to have younger users I use the category Financial -->Financial Aid and Loans category since it shows ads for getting financial aid for college which alot of 18 - 24 years olds are interested in. The category also pays pretty well usually from $0.35 - $0.80 per click.
if you go to the ypnblog, last article explain it all.... http://ypnblog.com/blog/2007/01/03/optimizing-for-relevancy-part-i/
I'd say, keep trying. It took me weeks to get decent results and I have to revisit occasionally to check on the ads to make sure they stay reasonably targeted. On pages with little text I added a sentence or two with some relevant keywords hidden in the background color of the page. I make sure the text is in decent English and not obviously overstuffed with keywords. It does help a bit. Thanks! Very informative - looking forward to the rest of the articles. Do you know this for a fact or are you speculating? Thanks, Pelle
Well thats about the most useless blog I have ever seen, the article is 80% nonsense about actors and why people choose to be a publisher with one small paragraph at the end that says "Content is king add more of it and optimize your sites pages"............Ok so what about for the rest of us that do know SEO, have the content, and have highly optimized pages........and YPN targeting is still completly off..... For instance I have one Myspace site left that still uses YPN it is completly optimized from top to bottom, lots of on page text, updated weekly, and has been running YPN ads for almost 3 months but yet the only ads I get are for real estate, dating, and very occasionally graphics design.......
I pointed to the article because it explain how it should works. I belive YPN still in beta because they haven't sorted it out yet. I have some pages showing very relevant ads, while other (that are optimized the same way) show only completely unrelated ads. It may also be a matter of a restricted pool of advertisers. Just my 2 cents.
I wasnt trying to bash I just think their article does not really tell people much accept optimize your site the rest is all bloat. And yes YPN is still beta and has alot less in terms of ads to pick from then say Google but at least it pays well.
